It is no news that Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Bollywood actor and newly minted mom, is undoubtedly one of the biggest fashion icons in the country today, earning herself a spot in every best-dressed list every time she steps out. The actor and her stylist-cum-sister Rhea Kapoor possess the eye to pick the most unique fashion pieces from established as well as upcoming designers around the globe, and style them with an unexpected twist, often incorporating some Indian element as a mark of the star's love and appreciation for country and culture.

As the actor celebrates her birthday on June 9, we put together some of her iconic fashion moments (and of course, there were a lot of them) from this past year.

For the historic moment at Coronation Concert held for King Charles III at Windsor Castle, Sonam Kapoor introduced a performing band while wearing a custom creation born out of a collaboration between Indian designer Anamika Khanna and London-based designer Emilia Wickstead. The off-shoulder floor-length gown came in the traditional ‘chintz’ print and was symbolic of her Indian roots and her new home in London.

Sonam Kapoor's outfit caused quite a stir as this was the most unexpected match-day ensemble that the actor wore at an IPL match in Delhi to give Apple's CEO Tim Cook the perfect Indian experience. Kapoor chose a yellow goonda linen sari from Anavila Misra's Dabu collection overlaid with a yellow khadi silk dupatta. The look was finished off with a braided updo with two bejewelled hair clips, karnphool earrings and some vintage bangles and rings and an Apple watch. And while it was a decidedly unexpected look, the breezy linen sari was the perfect choice for a hot day in the sun while also embracing her culture while meeting a foreign dignitary.

For the launch of the first-ever Apple store in Mumbai last year, Sonam Kapoor chose the innovative Japanese designer Junya Watanabe. She donned a deconstructed blazer and skirt set from the designer's collection with a black corset top. The actor also carried a Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama pumpkin bag in a sprightly yellow, looking equally chic and experimental in this ensemble to welcome and celebrate Apple in India.

Ever the lover of styling the traditional sari in innovative new ways, Sonam Kapoor chose a JJ Valaya creation for the launch of the NMACC in Mumbai. For the second night at the NMACC, Sonam Kapoor donned an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga that was also seen at the centre's inaugural ‘India in Fashion’ exhibit and rightly so, because this archival piece was a true work of art, perfectly capturing the brand's legacy. The lehenga was made of 20 unique panels which consisted zardozi, resham, vasli, marodi and tikki in various floral and moghul motifs that all beautifully came together to create this masterpiece. The actor paired the lehenga with a vasli and Swarovski corset and a silk tissue throw.

For her star-studded baby shower in London, Sonam Kapoor looked chic in pink in a cape-style floor-length gown by Emilia Wickstead with a beaten gold necklace and earrings. Kapoor opted for a bold red lip and magenta-hued nails to complement the soft pink of her dress and let her long hair down straight. Sonam Kapoor's pregnancy fashion game was unbeatable, especially in this sumptuous ivory Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla sari that was equal parts experimental and timeless. The actor was caressing her bump while the pallu of the sari was romantically draped over her shoulder giving a peek at the strapless blouse and her baby bump. The lower half looked almost like a dhoti-sari due to the loose drapes giving it that Goddess or apsara vive. A statement gold necklace, matching earrings and a stack of delicate bracelets–all taken from Kapoor Ahuja's mother Sunita Kapoor's jewellery collection, added regalia to her plain ivory sari, making her look as if she had walked straight out of a period painting.

Setting high standards for stylish and chic maternity looks, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja sported sheer, diaphanous black kaftan with lace detailing by Fil De Vie inlaid with just a black bra and paired with her mother's heirloom earrings. If Rihanna popularised the naked Dior dress while embracing her baby bump, Sonam Kapoor took it a notch higher by putting her own Indianized spin on the maternity style.
