I think about jewellery the same way I think about gravy at a holiday feast—on its own, it may not be the main component of a meal, or an outfit, but it does make everything better. It’s the finishing piece, the accent, the highlight and always worth indulging in.
As the chill of fall thickens, the layers of clothing grow and so does the importance of jewellery. A cozy sweater and jeans becomes everyone’s favourite uniform, but how do you personalize the look and make it feel unique to you? Gravy, aka jewellery. And this season, there is a whole buffet of jewellery trends to choose from.
Right now, jewellery is steering towards boldness, personality and individuality. Whether it’s a chunky cuff layered over your favourite sweater’s sleeve, sculptural pieces that command attention or the vintage charm of button earrings, the goal is to express our personalities through our accessories.
Here are some of my favourites.
On the runways, designer houses including Carolina Herrera, Versace and Missoni have brought back ’80s button earrings in a fresh new way. These are exactly what they sound like: elegant, detailed buttons meant for ears, and I love the interest that they add to classic outfits, breathing a touch of vintage into your style. It can also be a simple way to infuse your fall neutrals with colour; you could also coordinate the earring colour with your trouser or knit or go monochrome with the whole outfit for an opulent look.
How to style it: When wearing a button earring, juxtapose the retro feel by leaning into modern silhouettes like an oversized blazer or leather jacket.
One of my favourite trends that is continuing from last year is bold wrist pieces. This isn’t about delicate, stackable bracelets but one-and-done, chunky banglesthat can be worn overtop of a sleeve. This can really highlight the wrist and create an interesting arm silhouette. We are seeing the trend go even further with celebrities like Kaia Gerber and Elsa Hosk layering watches over gloves. Get creative and use your timepieces and big bracelets to elevate your fall staples.
How to style it: An easy way to try the trend is by layering a thick cuff or watch over a long-sleeve turtleneck, but you don’t have to stop there. Try layering your wrist pieces over blazer or chunky knit sleeves as well.
Charms took the world by storm in the early 2000s, thanks in part to Pandora, and could be seen on wrists everywhere for at least a decade. Then simple, minimalist jewellery took over but it seems the appeal of personalized pieces was never lost and charms are back in a big way! They are trending on bags, shoes and jewellery alike and I’m here for it. The best part of this trend is that you can customize pieces to showcase your personality, switching charms on and off necklaces or bracelets as you see fit. Charm jewellery is perfect for enhancing denim and a tee but can also add a touch of whimsy to your boldest styles. Just have fun and let the charms project your personality and unique style.
How to style it: Don’t overthink the styling—choose charms that are meaningful to you, like a birthstone or colour you love, and mix them with your everyday pieces.
Simple, layerable jewellery elevates every effortless summer outfit but for fall, we are craving pieces that feel more unique. The Missoni, Chanel and Bottega Veneta Spring 2025 runways showcased abstract earring shapes that bring a sculptural elegance to any look. As for clothing, play with different necklines on tops or dresses. A button-up with the first few buttons undone, an off-the-shoulder style or a straight neckline will work effortlessly.
How to style it: These pieces are showcased best with hair worn slicked back or behind the ear. Stay away from adding a necklace and let the earrings make the statement.
