This past weekend, Kate Middleton stepped out for two public appearances in honor of Remembrance Sunday, marking a slow return to engagements for the Princess of Wales. Her jewelry was full of significance; on Saturday, she chose Princess Diana's pearl drop earrings, and on Sunday, she wore a pair that belonged to Queen Elizabeth. Notably, too, she was back to wearing her engagement ring.
In September, Kate announced she had finished chemotherapy, but noted, "my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can."
In her first public engagement after this announcement, the Princess of Wales opted for a four-ring stack in place of her 12-carat sapphire engagement ring. That stack included a new eternity band, which she had previously worn in the video released to share an update on her cancer journey, along with her Welsh gold wedding band, and an eternity band from Annoushka.
In fact, until this past weekend, Kate hadn't worn her engagement ring in any public appearance—or any images or videos shared on Kensington Palace's social media channels—since attending the Wimbledon men's finals in July with her sister, Pippa, and her daughter, Princess Charlotte.
Perhaps her two appearances this weekend—and wearing her engagement ring—signals a greater return to normal for Kate. Indeed, Prince William shared a positive update on his wife, telling reporters while in South Africa, "Catherine will be doing a bit more next year, so we’ll have some more trips maybe lined up." Her next confirmed engagement this year will be her annual Christmas Carol service some time in December, which she hosts at Westminster Abbey.
