For so long, silver jewellery has lingered, been ignored and left alone in the jewellery boxes of the fashion pack, in favour of layered gold jewellery of Missoma and Monica Vinader fame. But silver jewellery is having a serious revival this season.

Of course, we've already seen silver trousers become an Insta sensation – just one of the many ways the metallic hue ruled the catwalk. And now, silver jewellery is looking just as appealing. It's minimal, sleek and sculptural (perfect if you like an overused blazer-leggings-heels combo) but also looks classic and works with stealth wealth Succession chic, too.

Just a helpful PSA: there's no rule that says you can't mix your metals. Silver and gold combined look styled, so if you're loathe to give up on your signature gold, but want to try a silver pendant necklace, beaded bracelet, curb chain or pair of huggie hoop earrings, consider taking a baby step and wear them together.

Silver is a really soft metal and would dent and scratch easily if it was made into jewellery on its own. Instead it's mixed with other materials (often copper) to add strength and create sterling jewellery. Silver plating, on the other hand, takes any metal (again with copper content) and covers it with a silver solution for super-shine.

Any type of silver jewellery will oxidise and tarnish over time, particularly if you don't wear it. The best methods for cleaning jewellery silver is a quick zhuj with a ready-made silver cleaning solution (buy it from a reputable jewellers) and then follow the instructions. Voila. There are also dozens of recipes for jewellery cleaning solutions online, using common household finds such as baking soda, lemon, vinegar and even beer and banana peels (yes, really.)
