Colleen Burt is reliving the moment her Sunday evening went off the rails.

The Urbandale woman was in her car, after buying a birthday card, at the Westridge Shopping Center in Clive. A woman approached her and told Burt it was her birthday and added that it was a tradition to give something to someone else when it's her birthday.

The woman would not take no for an answer.

"She just started talking and putting all this gold chains and handing them to me. And then she gave me a ring and said try it on," Burt said.

That is when Burt says she was taken advantage of.

"I must have taken my wedding ring off to try it on. And she's here let's put all the jewelry in this bag. and she pulled out a little baby sock. She must have dumped my ring out when she was putting the other jewelry in it. So then I went to give it back to her and there wasn't a wedding ring," Burt said.

Burt says the woman quickly got back into her vehicle and took off.

While Burt was dealing with the woman, another car pulled up and a different woman started arguing with the woman who said it was her birthday.

She believes they were all working together.

"I surmise that now," Burt said.

She says her ring is worth about $10,000.

"Richard has just turned 93 and we've just been married 20 years. We celebrated our 20th ... and I am just going to miss that ring so bad. I'd give anything to get my ring back," Burt said.

Clive police are investigating.
