Parolee Arrested On Suspicion Of Assaulting 2 Women In Livermore

LIVERMORE, CA — Livermore police arrested a man on parole accused of assaulting

LIVERMORE, CA — Livermore police arrested a man on parole accused of assaulting two women in the parking lot of the Arroyo Shopping Center.

On May 21 at around 5 p.m., police responded to numerous reports of an altercation on the 4300 block of First Street, according to an LPD news release. When officers arrived, they heard reports that a suspect violently assaulted a woman while trying to grab her purse. The suspect then reportedly attacked a second woman and stole her purse at gunpoint, then escaped.

Livermore police eventually identified the suspect as 21-year-old Colby Berry of Fremont, who is on parole for shooting at an inhabited dwelling in 2021. Police said Berry was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the robberies.

On Wednesday, with the help of Berry's parole officer, Livermore police arrested Berry at the parole office in Oakland. Police also obtained a search warrant for Berry's home, where they found a handgun they believe was used in the robberies.

Berry was transported to Santa Rita Jail, and faces several charges, including two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, attempted robbery, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.

"It's disturbing that Mr. Berry had already been released from prison after shooting at a residence in 2021," Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young said in a statement. "While wearing an ankle monitor, he committed several violent crimes in Livermore. I hope the criminal justice system will hold him accountable for his continued violence."
