He was the Chairman of Laois IFA in the past.

A Laois man is throwing his hat in the ring to become the new President of the Irish Farmers Association.

Ballinakill's Francie Gorman was proposed by his local branch at a local meeting of the Laois IFA county executive last night.

He'll now have a few months to secure of backing of five other county executives, before the election day in December.

Mr. Gorman is currently the Chairman of the IFA South Leinster Region, and was Chair of Laois IFA in the past.

He says he's been strongly thinking about the decision for months:
