Kim Kardashian wears Princess Diana's iconic necklace on red carpet after spending six-figure sum

Kim Kardashian has stepped out wearing a stunning piece of jewellery - which was once worn by Princess Diana. The reality icon, 44, attended a star-studded gala wearing an antique amethyst cross necklace, which has previously been seen on the late Princess of Wales. Diana famously wore the pendant to a 1987 charity event.

Kim was seen wearing the necklace at the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles this week, where she paired the vintage jewels with a plunging white gown, and had her hair styled in a sleek black bob for the occasion. The unique Attallah Cross pendant was made famous by Princess Diana, and Kim purchased it at an auction last year for an eye-watering sum.

The Mail reports that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star bought the piece at a Sotheby’s auction for a staggering $197,453 - double the pre-auction estimate from the famous auction house, and making it one of the rare few pieces of jewellery worn by the late royal to ever be sold at auction.

Diana had previously worn the stunning statement piece on a string of pearls at the 1987 Birthright charity gala, where she had worn it with a dramatic Elizabethan-style black and purple gown by the London-based French fashion designer Catherine Walker, creating an iconic moment in fashion history. The pendant features square-cut amethysts surrounded by 5.25 carats of circular-cut diamonds and was originally made by fine jewellers Garrand in the 1920s, as well as having been named by Vogue as “Princess Diana’s most unusual accessory.”

At the time of its auction, Kristian Spofforth, head of jewellery at Sotheby’s in London said : “It’s a standout piece in its own right, but with Princess Diana having worn it, it truly becomes an iconic piece of jewellery.”

Kim is no stranger to delving into the archives of fashion history to make a red carpet splash. In 2022, the reality legend famously wore the iconic dress Marilyn Monroe wore to sing “Happy Birthday" to president John F. Kennedy in 1962 to the Met Gala - a vintage piece dubbed 'world's most expensive dress,' and worth a jaw-dropping £3.8 million.

Away from the red carpet, the mum of four recently opened up about the 'struggle' of being a parent of a child with a learning difficulty , as her 11 year old daughter North West has been diagnosed with dyslexia.
