FLINT, MI – A trial has been ordered for Casey Kidd, a Flint man authorities say starved six dogs and abandoned eight more in poor conditions.

Kidd, who was arraigned last month on one felony count of abandoning/cruelty to between 4-10 animals, was scheduled to appear before a Genesee County District Court judge on Wednesday, June 7, for a preliminary examination.

However, court records show that Kidd, 30, waived his right to a preliminary examination, prompting District Court Judge Jessica J. Hammon to bind his case over to circuit court.

Now that the case will be heard by a circuit court judge, Kidd can either proceed to trial, plead as charged, or accept any potential plea agreement offered to him by prosecutors.

He remains free on bond.

At a prior news conference, sheriff's office officials said they began investigating a man later identified as Kidd in early May.

Sergeant Jason White was given information that dogs were chained up in the backyard of a Genesee County residence. One dog, Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said, was so tightly chained up that it was not able to move.

Eight dogs were in the backyard of a home where six other dogs were found starved to death and rotting, Swanson said.

The sheriff said that through his office's investigation, it was determined the dogs may have been used in a dog fighting ring.
